simplicity vs creativity

Do you know the candidates for football’s world player of the year 2005 award ? Well.. two of the stronggest candidates are Frank Lampard of Chelsea and Ronaldinho of Barcelona. I couldn’t agree less with this two, Lampard has this amazing statistic… he’s leading the premiership with goals… ( he’s a midfielder you know ) and assists, he’s also never absent starting for the club for more than 160 consecutive matches! Ronaldinho, in the otherhand… has this gifted skills ( like most of brasilian) and always a key figure to the team, he is football is all about these days.

I always have this feeling that Lampard would never beaten Ronaldinho for the award. You see.. people like to watch something different, they love to be entertained.. and ronaldinho give the people what they want, he’s creative, always trying to cast something in the match and while other’s do it only in the training ground.. that’s makes him a great player, he makes people think only he can do what he do, unreachable, just like Pele or Maradona. Lampard is not like that, nothing spectacular about the way he plays, he just get the job done. His manager Mourinho said that simplicity is the key of Lampard game, meanwhile his former manager in West Ham Harry Redknapp said that determination and hard work made Lampard who he is right now.

Of course, the main factor for Ronaldinho to touch the hearts of coaches and managers around the world, is how to use the skills he has effectively and efficiently for the benefit of his team, and i think he is successful in doing so…

By the way.. not Ronaldinho nor Lampard, my favourite players are :
Kaka’, for the way he runs and plays with the ball, Javier Zanetti, for his consistency and ball keeping, Fernando Redondo for his charisma and elegant performances…!!
